Let me repeat that question again: Can you convert an angry donor to give monthly?

YES, you can!

And here’s why! A donor who is angry and picks up the phone, cares enough about your organization to let you know that something is bothering him or her. So, if you treat the donor the right way, you may be able to convert him or her to give monthly.

Most donors call to complain about the number of times you send them something in the mail. So, this is the perfect opportunity to tell them that the main reason why you’re sending so much mail is because you have so many great programs that need to be funded. But, that you don’t have to send so much mail, if only the donor were to consider joining the monthly giving program. Because that would save time, money, mailings, stamps and it would help support all these wonderful children, animals, fill in the blanks,  you serve.

Of course, the person answering the phone needs to be able to be calm and be a great listener to hear if the donor is likely to listen to the message above. The person answering the phone should ideally be a monthly donor themselves so they can explain the beauty of the program.

You’d certainly never start arguing that you’re really not mailing that often, even if it’s true. We all know donors who think even one mailing a year is too much. But, give them the choice to join and how this is such a great and affordable way to support the organization they care so much about.
